Created in honor of the Dude Ranchers’ Association’s 100th anniversary, The Wrangle documents historic ranches across the American West through powerful imagery and storytelling. Over the course of the project, Baxter traveled thousands of miles to capture the spirit, heritage, and daily life of ranches that continue to preserve this uniquely American tradition.

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
On many dude ranches in the small hours of the morning, horses are gathered from their pastures and driven to ranch headquarters during a daily ritual often called “The Wrangle.” Ranch guests gather to listen to pounding hooves as their vacation companions arrive to the ranch for the day’s activities, repeating a tradition that has been in existence for decades.
This selection of images by Scott T. Baxter captures the landscapes and people of historic dude ranches that have existed for a century or longer.
